You're Invited!
The year is 1999.
The world is in the midst of what would come to be known as "the dot-com bubble" a period of economic
growth driven primarily by the popularization and proliferation of the world-wide-web.
Though the bubble would eventually burst, peaking on March 10th, 2000, this ushered in a new age of the web.
A golden age.
A time when anyone with a home computer, an internet connection,
and an imagination could create their very own website and put it on the
internet for the world to see.
An age before drag-and-drop web editors,
bloated javascript frameworks, and generative AI took over the web, making every website look the same.
Though this time has since passed, we can reclaime the html skills that generations past honed on the likes of mySpace, personal blogs, and strange, sort-of-hard-to-look at, tributes to their favorite shows and movies.
And so we shall.
What
Dramatic framing aside, this is just a fun little party where I hope to introduce you,
my esteemed peers and friends, to something I love: web development as art.
Especially as the internet becomes an increasingly hostile place.
We'll be using Neocities to make our webpages which is also where
you can find some examples of old-school websites.
I will be making lasagna and salad and providing drinks as well as helping everyone with their web pages.
